World silver medalist Fedrick Dacres was in excellent form at the weekend’s (8 Feb) King of the Ring Throwing Meet (See Full Results at this Link) in Kingston, Jamaica.

Dacres, who won his first global medal in Doha 2019, threw the discus 69.67 meters to take the top spot. The winning mark lowered the 68.84m he recorded in 2017.

Jamaica’s other two discus throwers in Doha, Chad Wright, 66.54m and Traves Smikle, 63.94m, finished second and third respectively.

Elvis Graham of GC Foster College was also in the record-breaking mood, throwing 72.64m to lower Orlando Thomas’Thomas’ 2016 record of 71.18m.
Zaavan Richards finished second with 63.17m.

Three records fell on the high school’s side.

Kingston College’sCollege’s (KC) Ralford Mullings set a new Class 1 boys’ discus record of 58.90m. Shakiel Dacres of Fervet with 58.73m also went beyond the old mark of 58.19m.

Alwayne Bedward, also of KC, topped the Class 2 boys’ shot put event with a new record mark of 18.47m. Calabar High’s Kobe Lawrence with 18.38m also went beyond Zico Campbell’s four-year-old mark of 18.15m.

Camperdown High’s 14-year-old Victoria Christie thew 12.83m in the girls’ U15 shot put. She beat the old mark of 11.59 set last year by Immaculate’sImmaculate’s Maja Henry, whom this year finished second with 12.12m.
