Rio Olympics sprint double champion, Elaine Thompson, was a third place finisher in the women’s 400m at the GC Foster Classic on Saturday (11 March).

Thompson, who was running her first 400m, seemed to weaken in the last 100m as she crossed the line in 56.03secs.

Former Edwin Allen student, Shannon Kalawan, now at University of Technology, led from the start to take event in 54.24.

Shevonne Dixon of GC Foster Striders, who overtook Thompson in the straight, finished second in 55.56.

Meanwhile, in the invitational 400m event, Dawnalee Loney topped that field in 52.36 ahead of Verone Chambers of Sprintec, 52.40. Ristananna Tracey, also of Sprintec, 52.77 and World Junior champion Tiffany James of Mico, 53.01, were third and fourth respectively.

Javon Francis of Akan, with his usual running style of leaving it for the homestretch, won the men’s invitational event in 45.94. Peter Matthews, Francis’ training partner, was second in 46.58.
