Usain Bolt says that he is “disappointed” to lose one of his nine gold medals, but added, “I don’t think it will take away from what I have done throughout the sport.”
Bolt, who won the medals – 100m, 200m and 4x100m in Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016, respectively has lost the third relay medal due to teammate, Nesta Carter’s positive substance violation result.
Carter, who was a part of Jamaica’s 4x100m successful team in Beijing, tested positive for a banned prohibited substance methylhexaneamine.
According to the IOC, Carter is “disqualified from the men’s 4x100m relay event in which he participated upon the occasion of the Olympic Games Beijing 2008.”
Carter, Michael Frater, Bolt and Asafa Powell made up the Jamaican team, which was two days ago, called on to return the medal.
“I have handed over back my medal already,” Bolt said.
“I am not happy about the situation, but rules are rules and I abide by rules,” the king of track and field added.
Bolt, the 100m (9.58) and 200m (19.19) world record holder, admitted the “Triple Treble” would have been a nice ring. “Definitely it has a nice ring to it, but as I said, what can we do? I have done all I wanted to do in the sport, I really impacted the sport, and I accomplished a lot so for me I can’t complain…”
He continued: “I have won all my individual events and that is the key thing, so for me, as I said, I’m sad, but its just one of those things.”
Bolt said he personally won’t appeal the decision to take away the medal, but “if he (Carter) needs any help I guess he will come to us and we will look over and see if it makes sense. Right now I will let him do his thing.”
“We were told he is going to appeal, so we have to sit and wait and see how that works out,” added the world sprint double champion.
