Kevona Davis’ record run highlighted the 200m finals at the Digicel Grand Prix on Saturday (March 10) at the National Stadium in Kingston.
Davis of Edwin Allen, Jamaica’s top schoolgirl sprinter, raced home in the Under-19 200m final in 23.23, a new championships record. She did so against a negative 1.4m/s wind.
Micha Harriott of Holmwood Tech, 23.42 and Deszay Freeman of The Queens School, 23.92 were the closest to Davis across the finish line.
Digicel will pay $25,000 for each championship record and $50,000 for each national junior record.
Davis’ teammate, Tina Clayton won the Under-17 girls’ 200m final in 24.47 against a negative 1.1m/s wind. Kerrica Hill of Hydel High ran 25.07 for second place
In the boys’ section, Antonio Watson of Petersfield ran away with the Under-17 section in 21.39 ahead of Rajay Morris of Clarendon College, 21.65 and Javari Thomas of St. Jago, 21.66
Anthony Carpenter of Calabar was the boys’ Under-19 winner in 21.37. Wolmer’s Xavier Nairne took second place in 21.92
