Kevona Davis recorded the girls’ fastest 100m time, but Oblique Seville limped across the line in 100m heats action on Friday’s (7 March) opening day of Jamaica’s Carifta Games Trials.
Davis, the winner of heat 3, led the qualifiers with 11.35. Davis’ Edwin Allen teammate Brandy Hall is the second fastest with 11.47.
Heat 1 winner Sashieka Steele of Holmwood Tech, 11.51 and Ackera Nugent of Excelsior, 11.63, winner of heat 2, are next best going into the final.
In the U20 boys’ 100m heats, Seville, the event favourite, limped across the line in 10.61, the eighth fastest of the finalist. He admitted he felt something towards the finish.
Both Raheem Scott with 10.44 and Sachin Dennis, 10.46, looked good going into the final on Saturday afternoon.
Edwin Allen’s big three of Serena Cole, 11.60, Tia Clayton, 11.65 and Tina Clayton, 11.72, all won their respective heats. Alana Reid of Hydel, winner of heat 2, split the Edwin Allen trio with 11.71 for the third-best time.
Bouwahjgie Nkrumie of KC, 10.57, Christopher Scott of JC, 10.66 and Roshane McLeod of STETHS, 10.85 are the top three U17 boys going into the final.
Desroy Jordon of Edwin Allen, 4:03.56, along with Calabar’s pair of Kevroy Venson, 4:03.77 and Rivaldo Marshall, 4:08.02 are the top qualifiers in the U20 boys 1,500m.
Bovel McPherson of Holmwood stamped his class on the U20 boys 400m with the day’s only sub-47. He ran 46.86 to lead Vere Tech’s Deandre Anderson 47.29.
Aalliyah Francis of Rusea’s with 53.90 and Shaquena Foote of Petersfield 54.17 are the top U20 girls 400m qualifiers.
Holmwood Tech’s Tahj Hamm leads the U17 boys’ field with 48.46, and Rickiann Russell, also of Holmwood, with 54.01 is the top U17 girl.
Jordan Turner of Calabar won the U20 boys’ long jump with 7.59m. Hydel’s Velecia Williams took the girls’ equivalent with her 6.05m leap.
Kobe Lawrence of Calabar threw 18.83m to take the U17 boys’ shot put while Britannie Johnson of Camperdown was the girls’ winner with 13.61m.
Danielle Sloley of Immaculate topped the U20 girls’ shot put with 12.94m.
