Kingston College (KC) and Edwin Allen are the leaders going into Friday’s (29 March) penultimate day of Champs2019.
KC hold a narrow one-point lead over Calabar, 64-63 while Jamaica College (JC) are within striking distance on 40. According to the Champs Magazine prediction, KC should be on 66 and Calabar 56.
On the girls’ side, Edwin Allen lead with 43 points, just four points what they were predicted to be at this stage. Rusea’s with 30 points and Hydel 20, also three points off their predicted target.
Jounee Armstrong of Immaculate Conception was in record-breaking form. She leapt 5.64m to erase the 11-year-old mark of 5.52m set by Opal James in 2008.
Balford Mullings was also a record breaker on the day, throwing a huge 19.99m to break the Class 2 boys’ shot put record. He broke Warren Barrett’s 18.18m record set back in 2014.
World U20 champion Kai Chang of Calabar topped the Class 1 boys’ discus final with 61.93m.
Shantae Foreman of Excelsior, 61.14, won the Class 2 girls’ long jump title while
Annishka McDonald of Vere Technical won the Class 3 girls’ high jump, clearing 1.74m, the same height as Ardenne High’s Torian Caven.
In the girls’ 2,000m steeplechase open, Edwin Allen’s Aneisha Ingram ran 7:11.17 to defend her title.
The boys’ final was won by Calabar’s Rivaldo Marshall in 6:07.22 ahead of Aj Sweeney of Edwin Allen 6:12.82. KC’s Aryamanya Rodgers, who fell at the start of the race, finished eighth in 6:26.96.
