St. Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) swept the boys’ 100m sprints. At the same time, Edwin Allen won 3 of 4 on Thursday’s third day of the 2021 ISSA GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
STETHS’ top sprinter Sachin Dennis stood tall and delivered by taking the Class 1 boys’ 100m final against a -2.3m/s wind. Dennis held his composure against the fast-starting Bouwahjgie Nkrumie of Kingston College (KC) to win in 10.53.
Petersfield High’s Antonio Watson, who won the double at Western Champs, finished fast but could only manage 10.58 for second place. Nkrumie ended third in 10.65.
In Class 2, Orlando Wint stopped the clock in 10.76 to take victory ahead of Jamaica College’s (JC) Hector Benjamin, 10.79 (-2.0m/s). Wint’s STETHS teammate Javorne Dunkley finished third in 11.01.
Tramaine Todd had earlier started the gold medal drive for STETHS when he won the Class 3 final in 11.03 ahead of Nicardo Johnson of KC, 11.28 (-1.7m/s).
On the girls’ side, Tia Clayton, after watching her teammate Theianna-Lee Terrelonge taking Class 4 in 12.53, false started in Class 2.
Edwin Allen started as the 1-2 favourite, but Tia’s twin sister Tina cried long and hard after winning Class 2 in 11.38 (-2.1m/s).
Brandy Hall was the other Edwin Allen victor on the day, taking the Class 1 girls’ 100m title in 11.72 ahead of Shenese Walker of Hydel, 11.86 (-1.8m/s).
Lavanya Williams of Rusea’s won the Class 3 girls’ final in 12.18 ahead of Hydel’s Shemonique Hazle, 12.37.
