After two finals on Friday’s (14 May) opening session, former champions Calabar stamped their authority on proceedings at the 2021 ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships.

Calabar picked up 29 points in the two finals, Class 1 boys’ shot put and Class 2 boys’ triple jump, at the National Stadium, in Kingston. They now moved to 109 points, behind KC, 141 and JC, 140.5.

Kobe Lawrence of Calabar put the Class 1 boys’ shot out to 19.00 meters to take gold. Christopher Young of Edwin Allen spoiled Calabar’s 1-2 party with an 18.30m effort for silver.

Denzs Simonds, with 17.26m, picked up third for Calabar.

Javar Thomas secured Calabar’s second victory. He topped the Class 2 boys’ triple jump with a hop-skip jump of 15.23m. Thomas’ teammate Nathan Wade picked up five points as he finished fourth with 14.60m.

Kingston College’s (KC) Jaydon Hibbert finished second with 15.15m, and Michael Curriah of Jamaica College (JC) ended third with 14.61m

Asia McKay of Edwin Allen cleared 1.62m to take the Class 4 girls’ high jump title. She outclassed Jayla Williams of St. Jago, who cleared 1.55m and Rhianna Lewis of Rhodes Hall, 1.50m.
