Christopher Taylor of Calabar has smashed another record at the Boys and Girls’ Champs 2016 on the third day Thursday night.

Taylor, who said he wants to take all the pressure off him on the final day on Saturday, decided to go for another Champs record and the talented sprinter was successful in his hunt, after he lowered the Class two boys’ 200m championships record with a blistering 20.80 seconds performance.

The 16-year-old, who broke the Class two 400m record on the first day on Tuesday, flashed off the corner in first position and then turn on the burners in the homestretch on his way to erasing the previous record of 20.89 seconds, which was set by former Calabar sprinter Ramone McKenzie in 2007.

There is no doubt that Taylor has speed in his legs after posting a personal best of 10.44 seconds for the 100m earlier this season, and with his strength from the 400m, expect to see this record dropping even further this weekend.

Meanwhile, his fellow Calabar teammate Dejour Russell was also in good form after booking his place in the final as well — winning his semi-final with a time of 21.08 secs.

The final of the 200m will be on Saturday.

Look out for more fast times from both Calabar sprinters in the race for points.

In the Class One Boys’ event, favourite Nigel Ellis of STETHS sped to victory in a swift time of 20.51 seconds.

Ellis will be hunting the record of 20.25 seconds of Usain Bolt, set back in 2003.

Meanwhile, Taylor also returned to run a blinding anchor for Calabar to win their heat of the Boys’ 4x400m relay.

Collecting the baton in second place and some three-metres behind the Edwin Allen last leg runner, Taylor quickly shift into gear to cut the gap before taking over the lead entering the home.

He managed to shut things down over the last 60m — splitting a time of 46.1 seconds on his leg.

The teenage sensation said after his master anchor that he wanted to race in the 4x400m heat to race himself into race shape after missing the recent Carifta Trials.
