BIRMINGHAM, Ala.– Friday opens a new indoor season for Mississippi State track and field.

The Bulldogs are set to kick off the 2020 campaign in Birmingham, Alabama at the UAB Blazer Invitational in the Birmingham Crossplex Arena on Friday, Jan. 10.

“The major goal for this weekend is for our student athletes to go and compete at the highest level that they can compete at,” head coach Chris Woods said. “Everybody is pretty much doing off events for them. It’s going to be another period for our coaching staff to evaluate where we are. The big focus for this weekend is for us to start the meet at a high level and complete the meet at a high level. Above all else, it’s to stay healthy throughout the meet. Those are the three major things that we are trying to accomplish this weekend as we go into our regular season.”

The event begins at 9 a.m. CT with the men’s shot put, in which Jeremiah Pierce will represent the Bulldogs. The meet will conclude with 4×400 meter relay, which is set for a 6:30 p.m. start.

State is one of four SEC teams in attendance, including in-state rival Ole Miss, as well as Alabama and Auburn. Alabama’s women found themselves ranked No. 24 in the USTFCCCA Preseason rankings on Jan. 8.
