Britton Wilson and Stacey-Ann Williams shone at the Tom Jones Memorial Classic in Gainesville, USA, on April 15th. Wilson, who had already impressed in the hurdles the day before, set a superb world-leading and personal best time of 49.51 seconds in the women’s 400m, the best college time outdoors all-time.

Wilson finished ahead of Ireland’s Rhasidat Adeleke, who set another Irish record with 49.90, the 13th-best European U23 time ever. Williams, a Jamaican athlete, achieved a personal best time of 50.12 in the Olympic development section, ahead of Guyana’s Aliyah Abrams with 50.77.

Nia Ali wins women’s 100m hurdles at Tom Jones Memorial Classic

In other events, world champion Nia Ali won the women’s 100m hurdles with a time of 12.53 (+1.4m/s wind), beating the world record holder Tobi Amusan who finished in 12.59, and Devynne Charlton, who clocked 12.64. In the women’s 100m, Kiara Grant from Jamaica ran a personal best time of 10.99 (+1.6m/s) to win the Olympic development section, followed by Maia McCoy with 11.08 PB and Tobi Amusan with 11.10 PB.

Julien Alfred sets college record in women’s 100m at Tom Jones Memorial Classic

Meanwhile, in the college race, Julien Alfred continued to show her superb form with a time of 10.72 (+2.4m/s), the best college 100m result of all time in any condition. Four other sprinters finished under 11 seconds, with Nigerian Rosemary Chukwuma in second place with 10.95 and McKenzie Long in third place with 10.92.

Emily Richards won the women’s 800m in 2:00.82, followed by Australia’s Imogen Barrett with 2:00.96 PB. Ohio State clocked 3:26.57 in the women’s 4x400m, while Thea LaFond set a world-leading mark of 14.13 (+1.3m/s) to win the women’s triple jump, beating NCAA star Jasmine Moore who finished with 13.91 (+1.2m/s).
