Sprinting maestro Usain Bolt continued his record breaking streak when he posted his eleventh clocking below 9.80 seconds following his 9.79 second victory to retain his men’s 100m crown at the World Championships in Beijing on Sunday.
The World record holder heads the all-time list ahead of compatriot Asafa Powell (eight) and American rivals Justin Gatlin and Tyson Gay (seven). Another Jamaican Yohan Blake is next (four) with yet another Jamaican Nesta Carter and USA’s Maurice Greene with one clocking each. Seven men (four Jamaicans and three Americans) have run below 9.80 seconds.
Gatlin holds the record for the most sub 9.80 runs in one season, five this year, one ahead of Bolt’s four in 2008 and Blake’s quartet in 2012.
