Kingston College standout, Akeem Bloomfield, the only Jamaican schoolboy to run sub-45, was very happy with his opening round performance at Champs 2016.

Bloomfield, who ran 44.93 to win the Class 1 title last year, took it easy in Thursday’s opening round. He sprinted out of the blocks, raced down the backstretch, jogged around the curve before bouncing down the homestretch in 48.36.

“The race plan was just to come out and quality easily and I did that, and I am very happy,” was his post race comment.

Closest to the six footer in heat 1 of the Class 1 boys’ 400m, was Paul Henry from Gaysnstead in 48.91.
