Yohan Blake announces plans to retire from athletics after Paris 2024 Olympics

Former world 100m champion launched his 100m campaign with a sub-10 seconds victory at last Saturday’s (5 May 2019) PURE Athletics Sprint Elite Meet.

Blake, who ran 10.01 in the heats, returned to top the field in 9.98 seconds, his fifth sub-10 in the last year.

Kendal Williams and Jaylen Bacon, both of Pure Athletics, finished in 10.10 and 10.28 respectively.

Keston Bledman of Trinidad and Tobago was 4th in 10.32. Former American sprinter star Tyson Gay ended 6th in 10.43.

Senoj-Jay Givans ran 10.50 for the meet’s 10th best time.

Kelly-Ann Baptiste of Trinidad and Tobago won the women’s event in 11.18 seconds. She beat American Barbara Pierre, 11.34, into second place.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Kyle Greaux won the men’s 200m in 20.15. Antonio Infantino, 20.73, Tony McQuay, 20.83, and Guyanese Winston George, 20.95 were the next best finishers.

Jamaican Warren Weir ran 21.18 for 7th.

McQuay won the men’s 400m in 46.06. George, in this event, finished 3rd in 47.10.

British Virgin Islands’ Ashley Kelly ran 54.66 for third in the women’s 400m, won by Kaylin Whitney, 52.43secs.
