American World 400m hurdles silver medallist Rai Benjamin has disputed Salwa Eid Naser’s claim that missing three drug tests is “normal.”
Speaking exclusively to NRK, he said: “That’s not normal”
“Everyone can miss one try. But everyone also knows that failing three tests is the same as a positive test,” explained Benjamin, the joint third-fastest man in history in the 400 m hurdles with a personal best time of 46.98.
“If you’ve missed two, make sure you stay where you want to be at the time you specify,” he said.
Meanwhile, reflecting on his 2019 season, Benjamin said he was on crutches for two weeks prior to the World Championships and considered withdrawing from Doha altogether.
“The night before the heat, I had such a pain in my leg that I considered not starting. I ran all the races with great pain. From that, silver was good,” he said.
He went on to win the silver medal at his first World Championships in 2019 in the men’s 400m hurdles, and a gold medal in the 4x400m.
