Several senior athletes enjoyed successful season openers on the weekend across the Caribbean and United States.
In Manchester, Jamaica, World Championship silver medallist Fedrick Dacres opened with 63.04m in the men’s discus.
Jamaica’s two other representatives in Doha 2019 were Traves Smikle, who finished second with 61.01 and Chad Wright, third with 60.76m.
Over in Nassau, Bahamas, Jamal Wilson cleared 2.30m at T-Bird Flyers Classic outdoor meet to start his season on a high.
In Trinidad and Tobago, Cleopatra Borel threw 17.47m in the women’s shot put.
On the US indoor circuit, Jamaican Lloydricia Cameron, who battled two years fighting injuries, opened at the Clemson Orange and Purple Elite with 16.78m in the women’s shot put.
Veronica Fraley of Clemson was second best with 15.64m.
Shian Hyde of UCF ran 23.37, at the same meet, to finish second behind Quanera Hayes of Life Speed, 23.16.
