MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Alabama men’s and women’s cross country teams posted a pair of top-10 finishes at the Memphis Twilight Classic Saturday night (4 Sept) to open the 2021 season.
The Alabama women, led by Megan Patton’s ninth-place finish, tallied 122 points to take fourth place out of 22 teams. The Crimson Tide put four women in the top 25 over the 5-kilometre course, including Patton, Leahrose Mami (12th), Kerri Walsh (17th) and Riley Schelp (25th).
Rich Saenz took 16th place to lead the Crimson Tide men to a seventh-place finish out of 20 teams, after totalling 175 points. Overall, Alabama put four in the top 50 of the men’s four-mile race, including Saenz, Scott Platek (39th) along with rookies Gavin Saacke (36th) and Collin Jones (48th).
