Whyte, McMaster win 400h titles at CAC Games

Ronda Whyte and Kyron McMaster won Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games 400m hurdles titles on Tuesday (July 31).

Jamaica’s Whyte, who entered the straight in 8th position, stormed down the homestretch to take victory in 55.08secs. Mexican Zudikey Rodriguez was second in 55.11.

In the men’s event, British Virgin Islands’ (BVI) McMaster had very little trouble in taking the top spot in 47.60secs. Jamaica’s Annsert Whyte ended second in 48.50.

Jamaica’s Ramone Bailey, who again left it late, topped the men’s long jump with 8.07m on his final attempt. Bermuda’s Tyrone Smith was the other jumper over eight metres with 8.03m.

Shanice Love of Jamaica, 58.40m, won bronze in the women’s discus. The event was won by Yaime Perez with 66.00m.

Two sub-20 seconds times were recorded in the men’s 200m semi-finals. Trinidad and Tobago’s Kyle Greaux shut it down and was edged on the line, 19.96 to 19.97 by Alonzo Edward of Panama.

Jamaica’s Jodean Williams ran a personal best and meet record, 22.88secs, to lead the qualifiers into the final of the women’s 200m.
