Canadian Andre De Grasse was beaten on his return to action at Saturday’s (28 April) Drake Relays in in Des Moines, Iowa.
De Grasse, who was forced out of last year’s London 2017 World Championships because of injury, returned with 10.15s, his fastest opener for 4th in the men’s 100m dash.
De Grasse, however, was pleased with his first outing in almost a year.
“It was all about coming out healthy,” said De Grasse, who won Rio 2016 Olympic Games 100m bronze and 200m silver behind Usain Bolt.
“I ran 10.15, my fastest opener ever, so I am happy about it,” said the 2015 Pan Am Games 100m champion, while adding “It helps to show where I am at and what I need to improve on.”
Americans Isiah Young, 10.02, Mike Rodgers, 10.03 and CJ Ujah, 10.13 were the top three finishers in the event.
Bahamian Jeffery Gibson, in the men’s 400m hurdles, topped the field in 49.09s, beating Michael Stigler, 49.24 and TJ Holmes, 49.29.
Devon Allen won the men’s 110m hurdles in 13.42 ahead of Aries Merritt, 13.45secs.
