The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) won’t appeal the decision of the US Anti-Doping Association to clear sprinter Christian Coleman.

However, in a statement, the organisation’s chief welcomed a tweaking of the wording of World Anti-Doping Association rules after confusion in the case.

USADA initially sought a case against Coleman for three missed tests before clarification from WADA revealed there was no case to answer.

AIU chairman, David Howman said: “Based on the facts of the case and clear advice about the interpretation of the current ISTI received from WADA, the AIU has decided not to appeal the USADA decision regarding Christian Coleman.

“We note that the ISTI is currently under review by WADA and we would support a change in the wording to ensure that in the future, filing failures are recognised when they occur and never backdated, Howman said.

Coleman will start favourite for gold at the Doha 2019 World Championships later this month.
