ROVERETO, Italy — Rajindra Campbell, Gabrielle Thomas and Bayanda Walaza were among the winners Tuesday at the 2026 Palio Città della Quercia, a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting at Stadio Quercia in Rovereto.
Campbell continued his strong season in the men’s shot put, winning with a throw of 22.17 meters. The Jamaican finished ahead of American Payton Otterdahl, who reached 21.81, while Italy’s Zane Weir took third with 21.17.
Thomas takes women’s 100m
Gabrielle Thomas led the women’s 100-meter A race, clocking 11.02 seconds in still conditions.
Christania Williams finished second in 11.18, with Jamaica’s Sabrina Dockery third in 11.25.
The race provided another late-season appearance for Thomas as the international track and field calendar moves through September.
Walaza breaks meeting record
South Africa’s Bayanda Walaza produced one of the fastest performances of the meeting in the men’s 100 meters.
Walaza won in 9.91 seconds, setting a meeting record with a legal plus-0.5 meters-per-second wind.
Ghana’s Abdul Rasheed Saminu followed in 10.01, matching his season best. Canada’s Eliezer Adjibi placed third in 10.09, while Jamaica’s Kadrian Goldson finished fourth in 10.12.
Lando wins high jump, Beckford shares second
Italy’s Manuel Lando won the men’s high jump after clearing 2.25 meters.
Japan’s Tomohiro Shinno and Jamaica’s Romaine Beckford both cleared 2.22 to share second place.
Greece’s Antonios Merlos and Italy’s Marco Fassinotti each reached 2.19, while Jamaica’s Raymond Richards finished sixth with 2.16.
The meeting in Rovereto added another round of international competition to the closing stages of the 2026 outdoor season, with athletes from Jamaica, the United States, South Africa, Italy and several other nations among the leading performers.
