Jamaica claimed two gold medals in track and field on the same night at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. Demario Prince won the men’s 110m hurdles, and Romaine Beckford took the men’s high jump title.
Prince ran from lane three in the hurdles final and crossed the line in 13.17 seconds. The wind reading was a legal 0.4 metres per second.
England’s Samuel Bennett finished second in 13.30, a personal best. Cyprus’ Milan Trajkovic took third place in 13.32, a season’s best for him.
In the high jump, Beckford cleared 2.25 metres for the win. He tied with India’s Sarvesh Anil Kushare at that height, but Beckford took the gold medal on countback.
Kimani Jack of England earned bronze with a clearance of 2.20 metres. Jamaica’s Raymond Richards also cleared 2.20m but placed fourth after losing out on countback.
In the men’s 100m, Rohan Watson topped Round 1 Heat 4 with a time of 10.13 seconds, reacting off the blocks in 0.138 seconds. He advanced to the next round as the automatic qualifier from his heat, ahead of India’s Gurindervir Singh, who ran 10.39.
The men’s long jump qualifying round also featured two Jamaicans moving through to the final. Jordan Turner placed third in Group A with a mark of 7.82 metres, aided by a wind reading of +4.2, and advanced as a qualifier. In Group B, Tajay Gayle led all athletes with a leap of 8.10 metres to win his group and secure automatic qualification.
Jamaica also had success in the women’s 800m heats. Adelle Tracey finished fourth in Round 1 Heat 1, clocking 2:02.58 to advance as a time qualifier behind Australia’s Sarah Billings, Botswana’s Oratile Nowe, and Kenya’s Janet Jepkemoi. In Heat 2, Kelly-Ann Beckford placed third in 2:01.63, automatically qualifying behind Kenya’s Lilian Odira and Wales’ Isabelle Boffey.
