Bayanda Walaza put together one of the standout sprints of the season on Monday, clocking 9.89 seconds (1.0) to win the 100m at the TIPOS P-T-S Meeting in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia. The time stands as both a meeting record and a personal best for the double U20 World champion. Ackeem Blake finished second in 10.04, while Andre De Grasse took third at 10.05.
The WACT Silver meeting drew a sold-out crowd to SNP Stadium, where several other athletes also delivered strong performances across the sprints and field events.
Torrie Lewis was among the top performers of the night, breaking her own Australian record in the women’s 100m with a time of 11.04 (1.8). Elaine Thompson-Herah placed second at 11.06, matched by Austria’s Christania Williams, who set a national record with the same time. Slovak sprinter Ema Bendová rounded out the top finishers in seventh place, running 11.39 for a Slovak U20 record. Lewis returned about an hour later to add a second victory, winning the 200m in 22.66 (1.5).
In the women’s 400m hurdles, Emma Zapletalová won in a meeting record of 53.70 despite hitting trouble at the eighth barrier. The result marked her first race in nearly a month. Lina Nielsen finished second in 54.69, with Daniela Ledecká taking third at 55.26.
The men’s 400m hurdles saw Bassem Hemeida improve to 48.10, defeating Kazuki Kurokawa, who ran 48.71 for second. Austria’s Niklas Strohmayer-Dangl claimed third in a national record of 49.18.
Abdelati El Guesse set a new meeting record in the men’s 800m, crossing the line in 1:44.46 to edge out Allon Tatsunami Clay, who finished in 1:44.62.
The short hurdles events produced season-best performances from both winners. Enzo Diessl ran 13.25 (0.9) in the men’s race, ahead of Tatsuki Abe’s 13.32. Demisha Roswell won the women’s event in 12.54 (1.3).
Field event competition also featured strong marks. Radek Juška won the long jump with a season-best leap of 8.18m (1.9), finishing ahead of Luvo Manyonga’s wind-aided 8.07m (2.2) and a legal 7.99m (2.0). In the women’s long jump, Marthe Koala took first with 6.71m (0.8), followed by Iryna Budzynska’s wind-aided 6.69m (2.1) and a legal 6.46m (1.2).
Other event winners included Claudia Hollingsworth, who ran 2:00.34 in the 800m, and throwers Katrine Koch Jacobsen (70.21m) and Bence Halász (76.61m) in the hammer. Edis Matusevičius topped the javelin competition with a throw of 79.80m.
