NOVE MESTO NAD METUJI, Czech Republic — Jamaica’s Javari Thomas delivered the country’s top performance at the 48th Grand Prix Meeting on Friday, racing to a personal best 10.09 seconds in the men’s 100 meters at the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meeting.
Thomas finished third in a fast race won by the Dominican Republic’s Melbin Marcelino, who improved to 10.06 seconds with a legal 0.6 m/s tailwind. Oman’s Ali Al-Balushi placed second in 10.08 after earlier running a personal best 10.07 in the heats.
The 10.09 performance marked another milestone for Thomas as he lowered his lifetime best in a race where all three medalists finished within three hundredths of a second.
Marcelino’s victory also gave the Caribbean another strong result on the European circuit as the Dominican sprinter continued his impressive season.
Elsewhere, Czech hurdler Stepan Stefko claimed the men’s 110m hurdles in a personal best 13.58.
Romania secured two victories through Gabriel Bitan, who won the long jump with 7.83m, and Alin Firfirică, who took the discus with 64.35m.
Ukraine’s Volodymyr Myslyvchuk captured the hammer throw with 77.69m.
In the women’s events, Greek champion Rafailia Spanoudaki-Chatziriga won the wind-assisted 100m in 11.25 seconds, while Czech athlete Ester Bendová completed the sprint hurdles double by winning the 100m hurdles in 13.02 after running 12.94 in the heats.
