Olympic Games and World Championships 100m silver medallist Kishane Thompson and World Championships 200m bronze medallist Bryan Levell are likely to miss next week’s Jamaica Trials, sources have told Trackalerts.com.
According to information reaching Trackalerts.com, both sprinters are reportedly dealing with injuries and are not expected to line up at the national championships. It is also understood that both athletes could sit out the remainder of the 2026 season, although no official announcement has been made.
Thompson has competed mainly over 60m and had one 150m this season. He opened with 6.52 in Spanish Town on Jan. 17 before running 6.56 indoors in Sätra on Jan. 22. He later clocked a personal best 6.46 in Kingston on Feb. 28.
At the World Indoor Championships in Toruń on March 20, Thompson ran 6.56 in the heats, 6.47 in the semi-finals and 6.45 for silver in the final. He also ran a world best mark of 14.92 over 150m at the Miramar Invitational in Florida, on April 4.
Levell has also produced strong marks in 2026 across the 60m, 100m and 200m. He opened with 6.54 over 60m in Spanish Town on Jan. 17 and later ran 6.47 in Kingston on Feb. 28. At the World Indoor Championships in Toruń, he recorded 6.53 in both the heats and semi-finals before running 7.69 in the final, which clearly showed he was hurt.
Outdoors, Levell ran 10.06 in the 100m heats at Velocity Fest 19 in Kingston on April 19 before clocking 9.90 in the final later that day. He also ran 19.93 over 200m in Nairobi on April 24 and was off the pace with 20.44 at the Rabat Diamond League on May 31.
Jamaica does not have a global outdoor championship such as the Olympic Games or World Championships this season, but the Commonwealth Games stands as the biggest meet on the 2026 calendar.
The remaining 2026 meets include the PanAm Senior Championships from June 26-28 in Medellin, Colombia; the Commonwealth Games from July 27 to August 1 in Glasgow, Scotland; the CAC Games from August 2-8 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; and the World Athletics Ultimate Championships from September 11-13 in Budapest, Hungary.
World 100m champion Oblique Seville will lead the men’s 100m charge at Jamaica Trials.
More details are expected closer to the start of Jamaica Trials (18-21 June).
