GAINESVILLE, Florida (April 13) – Noah Lyles, the reigning World Athletics Championships 200m champion, is set to compete in the upcoming 2023 Tom Jones Memorial Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida on April 14 and 15. Lyles will participate in the men’s Olympic Development 100m and 200m sprint double at the Percy Beard Track.

Lyles’ indoor campaign has been noteworthy, as he set a personal best time of 6.51 seconds for the 60m dash and achieved three of his top five career best times in the event.

Lyles aims to win both the 100m and 200m races at the 2023 Tom Jones Memorial. However, he faces a tough challenge from Andre De Grasse, the Olympic 200m champion, and a four-time world and Olympic 100m bronze medalist. De Grasse showed his fitness by running a strong anchor leg at the 2023 Pepsi Florida Relays on April 1 and is expected to provide stiff competition for Lyles.

Other athletes participating in the 100m race include Ronnie Baker, who ran a wind-aided 9.98 seconds at last weekend’s Miramar Invitational, Joseph Fahnbulleh, a former standout for the University of Florida and a Liberian athlete, Julian Forte of Jamaica, Eric Harrison of Trinidad and Tobago, Kendall Williams of the USA, and China’s Xie Zhenye, who won a bronze medal with China’s 4x100m relay team at the Tokyo Olympics.

Meanwhile, the men’s 200m Olympic Development race will feature Lyles competing against Kendall Williams, Eric Harrison, Nigel Ellis of Jamaica, and Belgium’s Kevin and Dylan Borlee.

The 2023 Tom Jones Memorial Invitational will take place over two days and will be live-streamed on SECN+ via ESPN Player on April 14 and 15. Half-Mile Timing will provide live results and updates on their website, while World-Track will provide a recap and results from the meeting. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting event!
