NASSAU, Bahamas (9 April) – Jamaica’s U20 girls’ 100m champion, Alana Reid, has withdrawn from the U20 girls’ 200m at the 50th Carifta Games held at the Thomas A. Robinson Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas.
Is Alana Reid injured?
It is believed that the decision was made as a precautionary measure by the Jamaica coaching staff, although there has been no official statement about the reason for her withdrawal. “She is resting for the relay,” a source told Trackalerts.com
Reid was scheduled to run out of lane 4 in semi-final 1 against Lynn Antoine (TKS), Lacarthea Cooper (BAH), Sanna Rae Morris (BER), Sanaa Frederick (TTO), Tara Lafontaine (FGU), and Nicola Peters (ISV).
On the opening day of the annual meet on Saturday, Reid won the gold medal in the 100m with a time of 11.17 seconds, displaying her class and skill in the event. However, the much-anticipated clash between Reid and Adaejah Hodge from the British Virgin Islands did not materialize as Hodge did not show up for the race.
Sources indicate that travel issues and a snowstorm in the United States had affected the team’s travel plans, possibly contributing to Hodge’s absence.
