Illinois dominates at Illini Classic track and field meet

The University of Illinois hosted the Illini Classic on January 6, 2023.

The women’s 60-meter hurdles event saw strong performances from the Illinois team, with Kionna Weaver taking first place at 8.58 seconds, Janaysia Byrd in second at 8.59 seconds, and Macee Rivers in third at 8.75 seconds.

Jesseca Hudson-Turpin of Purdue Fort Wayne placed fourth at 8.86 seconds, while Melanie Winters, an unattached athlete, rounded out the top five at 8.90 seconds.

Purdue Fort Wayne was also represented by Dylan Kirkwood, who finished sixth in 9.01 seconds, Sophia Buck in seventh at 9.04 seconds, and Jordan Yanders in eighth at 9.59 seconds.

The men’s 60-meter hurdles event was dominated by Illinois, with Bret Dannis taking first place at 7.89 seconds, DeVontae Ford in second at 8.01 seconds, and Aiden Ouimet in third at 8.49 seconds.

Max Wilhelm of Butler placed fourth at 8.74 seconds, with Brent Donaldson of Purdue Fort Wayne in fifth at 8.85 seconds.

Illinois’ Robert Williams rounded out the field in sixth place at 10.41 seconds.

Overall, it was a successful meet for the host team, with solid performances from both the men’s and women’s track and field squads.
