Grenadian Kirani James won the men’s 400m, and Jamaican Britany Anderson finished third in the 100m hurdles at Thursday’s (8 Sept) Zurich Diamond League final.

Kirani James won the men’s 400m, running a pretty good 44.26 to beat Americans Bryce Deadmon, 44.47 and Vernon Norman, 44.66.

“I am feeling good,” James said.

“It feels great to be the diamond race winner. The race was good, very competitive, against the best guys in the world. Although it was very unfortunate that Matthew got injured during warm-up and had to pull out at the last minute.

“He is the European champion, and I would have liked to compete against him. I have one more meeting coming. I try to enjoy every moment and to represent my country. It is special for me to win here today after eleven years when I also won in Zurich,” concluded James.

In the women’s 400m, Jamaicans Candice McLeod, 50.03, and Stephenie-Ann McPherson, 52.32, were fourth and eighth, respectively.

Sad Williams of Barbados ran 49.98 to take third in the event, won by Dominican Republic’s Marileidy Paulino, 48.99.

Who won the Zurich Diamond League women’s 100m hurdles?

The women’s 100m hurdles went to world champion and event record holder Tobi Amusan in a meeting record of 12.29.

Jamaican Britany Anderson ended third in 12.42, just behind American Tia Jones, 12.40.

Valarie Allman of the USA won the women’s discus with a throw of 67.77m.
