Elaine Thompson-Herah is the Birmingham22 Commonwealth Games women’s 100m champion.
Thompson-Herah, who won back-to-back Olympic Games titles and finished third in the event at the Oregon22 World Championships, secured the gold medal at the Alexander Stadium. Her time was 10.95.
Julian Alfred of St. Lucia took the silver medal with a time of 11.01 and England’s Daryll Neita, bronze in 11.07.
Two other Caribbean athletes, Tynia Gaither of Bahamas, 11.23 and Natalliah of Jamaica, 11.32, were seventh and eighth, respectively.
In the men’s final, Ferdinand Omanyala of Kenya ran 10.02 to take the gold. South African Akani Simbine took silver in 10.13.
Sri Lankan Yupun Abeykoon was the bronze medal winner in 10.14.
