USA beat Jamaica women in 4x100m final at World Athletics Championships Oregon22

The United States won gold in an upset over Jamaica in the women’s 4x100m final on Saturday’s penultimate day of the Oregon22 World Athletics Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, USA.

The USA ran 41.14, the 2nd fastest time at the World Championships, after Jamaica’s 41.07 in 2015. It is the 5th fastest performance of all.

The quartet of Melissa Jefferson, 11.35, Abby Steiner, 9.86, Jenna Prandini, 10.05, and Twanisha Terry, 9.88, got the job done for the USA.

Jamaica was only 0.04 seconds behind in 41.18, the 3rd closest margin of victory in the event at the World Championships.

Kemba Nelson led off Jamaica with 11.45 and handed over to Elaine Thompson-Herah, 10.10. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, the 100m champion, ran 9.97 on the third leg, and the world 200m champion Shericka Jackson, 9.66 on anchor.

The United States defended its gold medal and won its 8th gold medal and 13th medal in the event. The eight gold medals lead the medal list, while Jamaica won its 16th medal in the event.

Germany won the bronze medal in the event, its 5th, after gold in 2001 and bronzes in 1991, 1995, and 2009.

Nigeria was 4th, equalling its best finish in the women’s 4×100 from 1991 and 2001.

Spain made the final for the 1st time ever in the event and finished 5th for its best finish ever.
