Shericka Jackson secured an easy win over fellow Jamaican Elaine Thompson-Herah at the Rome Diamond League meeting on Thursday (June 9) in Rome, Italy.

Jackson, who missed last summer’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games final because of a misjudgment, recorded the only sub-22 seconds mark on the day. She crossed the line, smooth and comfortable, in 21.92 seconds.

It was a fairly even start, and even atop the curve, Jackson, running from lane four, Thompson-Herah from lane six, and Dina Asher-Smith in lane five, were all in the mix. However, Jackson pulled away as they straightened and opened the gap down the home stretch for a comfortable win.

Thompson-Herah battled with Great Britain’s world 200m champion Asher-Smith. The Jamaican held on 22.25 to 22.27 to take second place.

Bahamian world 400-meter champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo finished strongly in 22.48 to take fourth place.

In the 100m hurdles, Britany Anderson matched Jasmine Camacho-Quinn stride for stride. Anderson, however, hit the final hurdle, which threw her off balance. She held on for second in 12.50 to Camacho-Quinn’s 12.37.

Athing Mu continued to stamp her class on the women’s 800 meters, winning in 1:57.01 over Renelle Lamote of France, 1:58.48. Jamaican Natoya Goule finished sixth in 1:59.54.

Janieve Russell finished second in the women’s 400-meter hurdles, running 53.02 to finish behind Femke Bol of the Netherlands (53.02). Rushell Clayton finished fifth in 54.80 seconds.

Grenadian Kirani James topped the men’s 400 meters, stopping the clock at 44.54 seconds ahead of Vernon Norwood (44.81). Christopher Taylor finished fifth in 45.47.
