Elaine Thompson-Herah will lead six Caribbean women, four Jamaicans included in the 100-meter dash at Thursday’s (12 May) Puerto Rico Classic in Ponce.

The fastest woman alive faces Trinidad and Tobago’s Michelle-Lee Ahye, one of the fastest women this season with 10.94 seconds.
Also set to tackle the Olympic Games double-double champion are fellow Jamaicans Natalliah Whyte, who ran 10.97 this season, as well as Natasha Morrison and Shockoria Wallace. TyNia Gaither of the Bahamas will also be in the field. Also down to compete are Americans Cambrea Sturgis, who has a season-best of 10.87, Jenna Prandini, Ashley Henderson, Kayla White, Morolake Akinosun and Tamari Davis.
Elaine Thompson-Herah, who has recorded 10.89 so far this season, is the woman to beat in the event.

Ackeem Blake, who is looking better and better after each race, could break 10 seconds for the first time. Along with fellow Jamaicans Yohan Blake, Nigel Ellis and Tyquendo Tracey, he is down to face top American sprinters Trayvon Bromell, Michael Rodgers, Isiah Young, Kyree King, and Marvin Bracy. Add to that field Zharnel Hughes and Adam Gemili, both representing Great Britain.
Bahamian 400-meter Olympic and World Champion Steven Gardiner will be hard to beat in the men’s 300m. His current form and personal best of 31.83 make him unstoppable. Jamaicans Christopher Taylor and Nathon Allen, however, will want to make a race of it.
American Bryce Deadmon is the fastest this season in the 400-meter field with 44.81 seconds but Kirani James, the most experienced, cannot be counted out. Demish Gaye and Sean Bailey, the younger brother of Veronica Campbell-Brown, are the Jamaicans in the event.
Olympic champion Hansle Parchment will lead the men’s 110-meter hurdles field. He will have fellow Jamaicans Damion Thomas and Rasheed Broadbell for company, while American Devon Allen, the fastest in the field this year with 13.11 seconds, and Shane Brathwaite of Barbados are also down to face the starter.
Danielle Williams is in the women’s 100-meter hurdles against hometown hero Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, the Tokyo 2022 Olympic Games winner.
Americans Sharika Nelvis and Kristi Castlin are also in the field.
Rushell Clayton, Janieve Russell, Ronda Whyte, Shiann Salmon, and Kimisha Chambers are Jamaican entrants in the women’s 400-meter hurdles.
Athing Mu is one of the world’s best at 800 or 400 meters, and she has chosen the half-lap this time around. Jamaicans Chrisann Gordon-Powell and Junelle Bromfield will want to stay as close as possible.
Bahamians Donald Thomas and Jamal Wilson are in the high jump.
Jamaican Jordan Scott competes in the triple jump along with American legend Christian Taylor.
O’Dayne Richards will face possibly the greatest shot putter of all time, American Ryan Crouser.
Barbadian Akela Jones will line up with Jamaicans Tissanna Hickling and Chanice Porter in a competitive women’s long jump.

In the mens 110mh Hansle will be severely tested by the inform devon allen. the womens 100m features the world leader up intil Shelly ann’s kenyan heroics cambris sturgis and the olympic champion. the race that i am looking forward to most though is the mens 100m which appears wide open with the tumbleweed duo of bracey & bromell given a slight edge.
