Thompson-Herah wins T&FN top award

Jamaican sprinting star Elaine Thompson-Herah is Female Athlete of the Year 2021 by Track and Field News.

In the 47th edition of women voting, she beat Yulimar Rojas only by one point. Also, close in third position Sifan Hassan and fourth Sydney McLaughlin, all four receiving first-place votes.

Thompson-Herah had a fantastic 2021 season. She ran a new Jamaica and Olympic Games record of 10.61 to win the 100m in Tokyo and lowered the mark less than two weeks later to 10.54. She also broke Merlene Ottey Jamaican record of 21.53 to win the 200m in Tokyo.

Thompson-Herah ended her season with victory at the Diamond League in Zurich.

In fifth, Faith Kipyegon ahead of Athing Mu and Jasmine Camacho-Quinn.

Rounding off the top 10, Shaunae Miller-Uibo finished 8th, followed by Valarie Allman and Dalilah Muhammad. The U.S. has 4 Top 10ers for only the second time ever, matching 1985.

In total, 15 athletes got votes.
