Russell edges Jackson in 400m at Velocity Fest 4

Janieve Russell at Jamaica Trials

Janieve Russell won the women’s 400m at Saturday’s (8 Aug) Velocity Fest 4 at the National Stadium.

Russell, who battled with Doha 2019 World Championships bronze medallist Shericka Jackson to the line, won in 51.74. Jackson finished second in 51.76s.

Stephenie-Ann McPherson, heat 2 winner, was third overall in 52.20.

Ronda Whyte, the heat 1 winner, was fourth overall in 52.84.

In the men’s event, Jamaica’s record holder Rusheen McDonald topped the field in 46.49 ahead of Akani Slater, 46.60 and Demar Murray, 46.93.

Rasheed Dwyer topped the men’s 200m in 20.94 ahead of Andel Miller, 21.50 (-1.6m/s wind).
