Scott wins, Matherson runs 200m PB at ACC Indoor Championships

Jhevaughn Matherson ran his best 200m indoor time

Former Kingston College (KC) star athlete Jhevaughn Matherson ran his best 200m indoor time, and Jordan Scott won the triple jump at Saturday’s Atlantic Coast Conference Championships (ACC) in South Bend, IN.

Defending NCAA champion Scott, a senior at Virginia, won the men’s triple jump title with a leap of 16.42. Scott’s teammate Owayne Owens, formerly of Cornwall College, was second with 16.25m.

Scott, who represented Jamaica at the Doha 2019 World Championships, was fifth in the long jump with 7.56m.

Matherson, representing Florida State, ran his lifetime best of 20.88 for second behind Marcus Parker of Clemson, 20.84.

In the men’s 60m, Raheem Chambers, formerly of St. Jago, finished second in 6.61. Matherson ran 6.63 for third in the final won by Cravont Charleston of North Carolina, 6.58.

Jamaican Sidney Marshall, representing Clemson, finished 4th in the women’s 60m hurdles with a season-best 8.28.
Notre Dame’s pair of Jernaya Sharp and Summer Thorpe both ran 8.19.

Florida State finished 1-2-3 with Trey Cunningham, 7.60, Caleb Parker, 7.71 and Braxton Canady, 7.75 in the men’s 60m hurdles final.

Former Vere student Andrenette Knight was also a fourth-place finisher in the women’s 400m in 53.70.

Virginia Tech’s won both 400m races with Caitlan Tate, 52.42 and Jacory Patterson, 45.66.

Ka’Tia Seymour of Florida State won the women’s sprint double. She topped the 60m in 7.17 and 200m in a new personal best, meet and facility record of 22.82.
