Baton Rouge, La. – Tonea Marshall made her second-straight appearance on The Bowerman Watch List Wednesday afternoon (4 Mar). She is one of 10 women recognized on the pre-NCAA Indoor Championships edition of the watch list.
Marshall just claimed her first-career SEC individual title last weekend at the conference meet in the 60m hurdles. Marshall hurdled her way to a meet-record winning time of 7.89 seconds in the event; she broke the SEC record of Kendra Harrison that had stood since 2015.
With the time of 7.89, Marshall became only the second hurdler in collegiate history to have three sub-7.90 60m hurdle races in a career. Her season-best time of 7.86 that she ran at the Corky Classic (Jan. 18) made her the third-fastest hurdler in NCAA history. She also ran a time of 7.89 seconds at the Tyson Invitational on Feb. 14. She owns three of the top-12 fastest times in NCAA history – No. 5 (7.86), No. 11 (7.89), and No. 12 (7.89).
Marshall will enter the NCAA Championships as the favourite in the 60m hurdles as she is ranked No. 1 in the nation. The NCAA Indoor Championships will take place March 13-14 in Albuquerque, N.M. Marshall is undefeated this season in the 60 hurdles with wins at the Corky Classic (7.86), Razorback Invitational (7.92), Tyson Invitational (7.89), and SEC Championships (7.89).
