Deshawn Morris topped the men’s 400m at last weekend’s (7-8 Feb) Frank Savigne Husker Invitational. The event was held at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Morris, running for the University of Maryland, clocked 47.26 seconds for the victory. Tony Nou of the University of Nebraska with 47.45 and Che Lara of Pratt Community College, 47.91, were second and third respectively.
A winner for KC at Champs, Morris finished 5th in the men’s 200m. He ran 21.47s behind 3rd finisher and Jamaican Ivan Henry of Kansas, 21.41 and winner Caleb Boger of Barton Country 21.08.
Several other Jamaicans, Colin Rowe, Shakwon Coke, Annia Ashley, Fiona Richards and Phillip Lemonious also participated at the meet.
Rowe of Maryland copped 3rd in the men’s 600m with 1:19.70 behind Brentyn Wetovick of Nebraska, 1:18.18 and Agerian Jackson of Butler CC, 1:18.51.
Coke, representing Barton County College, leapt 7.60m to finish behind Jonathan Wells of Illinois, 7.66m in the men’s long jump.
The former KC athlete also did the triple jump and got 3rd place with 15.41m behind winner Treyvon Ferguson of Kansas 15.70m, and Noah Herring of Texas State, 15.42m.
Former Edwin Allen athlete Ashley, now at Barton, cleared 1.70m for third in the women’s high jump. Madison Yerigan of Nebraska, 1.74m won the event.
Richards, also formerly of Edwin Allen and now at Barton, threw 16.28m in the women’s shot put. Kristina Insingo of Nebraska, 16.76m topped the event.
The record of 18.76 is being held by Cleopatra Borel of Trinidad and Tobago.
Lemonious, also representing Barton County, ran 7.75 to finish behind Jaylan McConico of Iowa, 7.67, in the men’s 60m hurdles.
