New dates were announced for the Youth Olympic Games 2022 in Senegal. The latest development was confirmed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Dakar 2022 was originally scheduled for May or June. Now the event will take place from October 22 until November 9.
The IOC agreed to the change because concerns were that the previous dates would have clashed with the school curriculum.
Two previous games, Singapore and Nanjing both took place in August. Buenos Aires 2018, however, was held in October.
Despite the change, Kirsty Coventry, chair of the Dakar 2022 Coordination Commission, reported that “preparations for the first Olympic event on the African continent are progressing rapidly and well on track.”
