Shanieka Ricketts came up big time to win her first IAAF Diamond League title. Ricketts produced a massive personal best of 14.93m to take the crown.
She won with the last jump of the competition to beat her previous best mark of 14.77m and will walk away with US$50,000.
“I do not yet know what I will do with the money,” she said.
Ricketts, who won on her last jump, kissed her husband and coach Kerry-lee, embraces her Jamaican teammate Kimmy Williams, picked up her national flag and walked around in disbelief.
“My husband and coach Kerrylee Rickets hugged me right after the competition. I have a really good team that is supporting me, my coach, my manager and my physio. So a new PB was possible today.
“Before the last jump, I knew that I had a chance, and I needed to take that chance. This is my first Diamond League win, and with a PB. I am soo happy,” Ricketts said.
“Perfect on the board, sumptuous through the phases,” was the description of the blogger.
Yulimar Rojas (VEN), who leads the world with 15.11m, was beaten into second place with 14.74m.
Liadagmis Povea (CUB) finished third with 14.49m.
Kimberly Williams, the other Jamaican in the final, finished 7th with a mark of 14.10m.
