Asafa Powell withdraws from Cayman Invitational

Cayman Invitational regrets to advise that unfortunately, Asafa Powell will not be competing today (2 June).

Asafa committed to doing the meet a long time ago, he had a groin strain in the winter that required extensive rehab. He has been doing everything that he can to be back on track as soon as possible.

For that reason, he came to Cayman with the intention of competing. He is healthy again but has missed 8 weeks of training and unfortunately feels he is not ready to race.

He has made the last minute decision not to race, but he will attend and support the meet and see his fans. He will be back for the 2019 edition.

As a former athlete, the Meet Director, Cydonie Mothersill, knows all too well the disappointment of not being able to compete.

While she is sad that the Cayman community will not get to see Asafa run, she is certain that those who attend will enjoy an amazing evening of track and field talent.
