KINGSTON — In-form Damion Thomas flashed to a new World Junior record equalling time to win the U20 boys’ 110m hurdles at Jamaica National Championships inside the National Stadium on Saturday.
Thomas, who has been outstanding this season and finished third for LSU at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships, posted a time of 12.99 seconds to win the event, matching the previous mark of France’s Wilhem Belocian, set in 2014.
Thomas also lowered the national record of Tyler Mason, who set the old mark of 13.06 secs in 2014.
Following Thomas home was Calabar’s Orlando Bennett, who also went below the previous national record with his second-place performance of 13.00.
Meanwhile, 2017 World Youth Champion Dejour Russell of Calabar was left back in third place in 13.26.
In the U20 girls’ event, Amoi Brown of Vere, who will represent the University of Texas in the fall, won with a personal best time of 13.09 seconds.
Following her home was World Youth champion Britany Anderson, who also posted a personal best time of 13.19, while Crystal Morrison of St. Jago completed the podium places with a time of 13.47, which was also a personal best.
Ackera Nugent of Excelsior was the sole competitor in the girls’ U18 and she crossed the line in 13.47, while the boys’ section was won by Jordani Woodley in a PB of 13.85.
