Thompson out of Shanghai DL with “physical issue”

Elaine Thompson, the Rio 2016 Olympic Games sprint double champion, has pulled out of the Shanghai Diamond League because of “physical issue”

Shanghai Diamond League, in a statement released on 6 May, headlined “Christian Coleman & Elaine Thompson withdraw from Shanghai”

“Unfortunately both athletes are are dealing with physical issues that prevent them from participating in the IAAF Shanghai Diamond League this coming Saturday,” the statement said.

Thompson finished second in last weekend’s Diamond League opener in Doha. She ran 10.93 to finish behind Marie-JosÈe Ta Lou of Ivory Coast, 10.83s.

“I’m very happy to hit the podium. For me, I’m looking ahead for the year, and topping my PB is one step on that journey,” Thompson was quoted as saying after the Doha Diamond League.
