Manchester High School joined the 5K Run/Walk fray on Tuesday (7 November) when it launched its Inaugural Manchester Capital Run on the school compound.
The race will run off on Sunday December ten in Mandeville at 6:30 am. It will start at Ward Avenue and end at Manchester High School. The route: Ward Avenue to Andrews Memorial Church, left on to West Road out to Greenvale Rd, make a left and travel straight to Manchester High School.
Prizes: Cash prizes and trophies for overall winners, male and female in walk and run, age categories, high school team categories along with corporate groups. There will also be other prizes and surprises.
Race director and coach at Manchester High, Jerry Holness said that it was only fitting that the school introduced its own 5K run/walk in the form of the Manchester Capital Run as the school has a rich history of performance in the middle and long distances. He mentioned Linton McKenzie, Delroy Hayden, Norval Jones, George Turbo Powell, Winston Skinnyman Taylor, Hilda Baker, the Turners sisters and in more recent times Natoya Goule.
Holness said that “the time has come to monetise the success of sports in our school for the further growth of all of our sports.”
