Rio Olympic relay medallist Javon Francis opened his season over 800 metres at the McKenley Wint Classic at Calabar High School on Saturday (21 Jan).
Akan Track Club’s Francis, who helped Jamaica to silver in the men’s 4x400m relays in Rio last August, ran 1:54.08 to win heat two of the men’s 800m.
He, however, was second overall behind Ricardo Cunningham of Vision Track Club, 1:52.73.
Peters Matthews of Akan finished 5th in 1:54.47, while Martin Manley of Cameron Blazers ended 7th in 1:57.17.
Mario Forsythe of Akan won the men’s 400m in 48.91 ahead of his teammate Wayne McPherson 49.52.
Roneisha McGregor of Hydel, 54.22, beat Samantha James of Mico, 54.70, in the women’s Olympic Development 400m.
