OSLO, Norway (EME News) – Double Olympic winner Andreas Thorkildsen has called time on his illustrious career. “Have decided to end my career as a professional javelin thrower, its been a fun ride," he said.
"Thanks for all the support these years. Thanks to everyone who have helped me along the way,” Thorkildsen wrote on his Instagram page.
Thorkildsen missed the 2015 season through injury and was planning to make his comeback in the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene at the end of the month.
He claimed the Olympic titles in 2004 and 2008, European titles in 2006 and 2010 and the world title in 2009.
The thrower's lifetime best of 91.59m set at the 2006 Bislett Games places him at seventh on the world all-time lists.
