Usian Bolt leads PL Sports Poll

HAVANA, Cuba –  (Prensa Latina) Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt is keeping his edge in the sports poll of Cuban news agency Prensa Latina for the selection of the best Latin American and Caribbean athletes in the year 2015.

After he received the vote of French newspapers L'Humanite and Le Marseillese, reaching 12 votes -almost 10 ahead his main contender- over Lionel Messi (Argentina).

L'Humanité left everything to Jamaica, leaving Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce as the best among the ladies, and women 4x100m relay team as the most outstanding between Caribbean and latin American teams.

However, in the last two categories, those who set the pace are the Cuban pole vaulter Yarisley Silva, now with eight units, and the Cuban boxing squad, with 10, respectively.

For its part, La Marseillaise also gave ballots to boxer Lazaro Alvarez, Messi, the wrestler Mijail Lopez, tae kwon do athlete Rafael Alba and Venezuela's bicicrossist Stefany Hernandez in the top five of the season, now with 11, 9, 2 and 1 vote the last two, respectively.

Since its inception in 1964 and until today, participation in the annual survey is conducted by Prensa Latina news organization (print, radio, television and electronic media) and not as individuals.

The votes must be submitted until Monday December 21 to deportes@prensa-latina.cu, and the survey results will be released a day later.

The Cuban boxing squad today held section at the top of the best team in the annual survey of Prensa Latina to select the main athletes and sets Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Cuban squad, World Cup winner and runner Doha Orb Series this year, reached 10 votes to add the support of the newspaper El Artemiseno, in the western Cuban province of Artemisa.

Behind the Cuban team there is the Chilean soccer team, king of the Copa America in Chile-2015, appears with three votes, Wednesday to receive support from the Avileña Television, the central Cuban province of Ciego de Avila, and the sports channel Cuban Tele Rebelde.
