Contested earlier was the men’s 100m where Jamaica’s Xavier Angus placed 3rd in his heat and earned an automatic bid into the semi final.
Akani Hislopp of Trinidad and Tobago leads the Caribean nationals with a time of 10.53 going into the next round.
However it was Japanese Abdul Hakim Sani Brown who set a Championship record of 10.30 in the early going that had the stadium abuzz for this evening’s semi final. Also qualifying for the semi final are Andre Morrison (JAM), Javan Martin (BAH), and Edward Amores (CUB).
In the women’s 100m hurdles -Jamaica’s pair of Sidney Marshall 13.89 (-1.3m/s) and Janeek Brown 13.67 (-1.4m/s) taking automatic bids into the next round.
Charisma Taylor of the BAH set a new pb 14.06 (-0.7) while qualifying for the next round.
In the men’s 400, heat 2 saw favorite Christopher Taylor 46.30 settling for 2nd place to Anthony Jose Zambrano 46.27 PB. Cayman Island’s Jamal Walton 47.35 won his heat .
On the women’s side in the 400m, Jamaica did not advance any athletes. The regional qualifier with an automatic bid was Roxana Gomez (53.65) CUB. She was later joined by Avon Samuels (55.42) GUY and Dreshanae Rolle (55.51) BAH.
