Praught: "My Mom and and my Dad are both Caucasian. So, I grew up in a very uncommon family, especially for the Midwest."

EUGENE (USA): Oregon Track Club athlete Aisha Praught will now represent Jamaica, inform RRW.
The 25 year old has a Jamaican father, who she met last year for the first time. Her journey to find her father took her to Berlin, where he works as a singer, songwriter, producer and musician.

"I knew from an early age that I was Jamaican, but it wasn't in my everyday life so much," Praught told Race Results Weekly in a telephone interview from Eugene last night. "My Mom and and my Dad are both Caucasian. So, I grew up in a very uncommon family, especially for the Midwest."

Praught may compete in the 1500m and 3000mSC at the 2014 World championships.
She has 1500m and 3000m steeplechase bests of 4:05.52 and 9:34.69, respectively, could be Jamaica's only participant in these events.

"It's almost as if I'm a novelty," said Praught. "Distance running (in Jamaica) is not cool. You've got all the kids trying to emulate Usain Bolt in the starting blocks."

The Jamaica Trials is June 25-28 at the National Stadium in Kingston.
