LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior sprinter Remona Burchell won the semi-final of the women's 60-meter dash in 7.17 seconds on Friday to lead the University of Alabama track and field team on the first day of competition at the 2015 Southeastern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at Nutter Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Kentucky. Through one day (four events) of competition, Alabama is fifth in the men’s team standings with 16 points while the Tide women are 11th with seven points.

"This was a good day for us, but it could have been an even better day had a few things broke our way," said head coach Dan Waters. "We had some good performances and did some good things. We have a chance to do some great things tomorrow. This is always a tough meet, so you know going in that there will be highs and lows, but that's why we stress the competitive mental approach so much in what we do. I'm looking forward to tomorrow to see how we come out and compete."

Burchell looked comfortable in blowing through the field with the third-fastest 60-meter time in Alabama history as she impressively advanced to Saturday's final. Overall, Crimson Tide athletes produced five career-best performances on the day led by a surprising performance by freshman Daniel Haugh in the men's weight throw, and Justin Fondren's tie for second in the men's high jump.
